With the car called for, we left at 9:30 a.m. wanting plenty of time to get to our 1:30p.m. flight. It was a good thing we did! We drove to the airport and then remembered we still needed to gas up. I found a station just one and a half miles away. With that done, we dropped off the car and headed into the airport. Hawaii has a very interesting system at the airport. You stand in one line to get your ticket. This is also where they put the tag on your bag if you are checking it. You then take your bag to the drop off point. From there you head to security. All of these area had very long lines.

After landing, we went in search of the rental car. It was a little confusing to follow the signs. The sign read, “Rental Car On Rental Car Off”. listed under each heading were the names of the rental car companies. We finally figured out that "On" meant it was at the airport and "Off" meant was off site. While our company was under the "On" side, we still had to take a shuttle to the lot. Once there, we got the car, loaded it up, and headed to our hotel, Ashton Islander On the Beach. On the way, Kathleen got a text from Captain Andy’s Evening Cruise that said the cruise on Wednesday was canceled due to the rough seas caused by Hurricane Calvin even though it had been downgraded to a tropical storm.
