Day 2, July 16

The plane ride to Copenhagen was uneventful. They served dinner just after take off. Of course no one ate much after having eaten in the lounge just a few hours  before. After dinner, with the lights turned down, I started to watch the movie Black Panther but I could hardly keep my eyes open. I settled in to sleep in my seat but this wasn't happening. I really need to curl up and the seat wasn’t quite big enough so I got up, looked around and find a set of empty seats together. It appeared that everyone else on the plane was sleeping so I curled up there and did get  little shut eye. What amazed me as I thought about it later was that with all those people and no one was snoring, it was dead quiet on a plane.
Once off the plane, we made our way to collect our luggage.  It showed up almost immediately. Well almost all. We were missing two bags, Linda C. and Victoria’s.  We continued to wait hoping they may have put in the back of the plane but they never appeared. I went with Linda C. to the lost luggage counter while the rest of the group found a place to wait.  Linda H joined us at the counter. While taking down the information, the agent asked for Victoria. I ran to get her. She was frantically looking for her cell phone/wallet case. It was not found. I took her to the counter to deal with her suitcase and to let them know about her wallet.  Once we finished with the lost luggage, the agent sent her to the information window to see if her wallet had been left on the plane. I went with her.
The Information booth was just outside of the security area.  This agent called up to the gate desk but no one answered. She made a few more calls but could not locate the wallet.  We then headed back to the group. But we had a slight problem. Since the information booth was on the outside of the secured area, we could not get back in.  We asked the policeman standing there how to gain access. He told us we had to go through security. So we headed up the stairs toward the gate but realized that was not going to work since we did not have a boarding pass.  I then found an airport security worker who told us we would need to have an escort to get back to the baggage claim area and directed us to the SAS window which was downstairs near the exit door. Heading back down, I started looking around for Karin and Ellen since they had gone earlier to find our guide.  As we walked through the area that people wait for those disembarking their planes, I saw a short woman standing by the gate holding a sign saying, “Richmond Group.” This was our guide who came to find us. Everyone else in the group was already on the very large 44 passenger bus that was there just for us. We set out for the hotel minus the 2 suitcases and the wallet.
The Hotel Alexandra is a boutique hotel in the middle of Copenhagen with rooms decorated in the spirit of the 60’s. The rooms are decorated in the Danish Modern style. As you walk down the halls you can read about the history of much of the furniture used to decorate the hotel.    After checking into our rooms, we met in Linda C. and Victoria’s room for a brief meeting about the evening. It was decided that since we had missed the boat tour which we were scheduled for earlier in the day, we would ask to do it tomorrow. Everyone agreed that dinner was going to be on their own.   Mom and I left with plans to meet up with Linda K. and walk to Tivoli Gardens.
Trivoli Gardens is a very unique area.  It has a lake, flower gardens, amusement rides, shops, restaurants, and lighted paths.  When the sun goes down the whole park comes to life with lights all over the landscape. It was around 6:30 when we went in and we were hungry. After checking out a few of the over 40 restaurants inside the park we chose Grøften because of its Danish flair.  Mom had the lamb shank, Linda had Wienerschnitzel, and I had a fish called plaice. The food was excellent. We then walked around the park seeing a few gift shops, the lake, flower gardens and the rides killing time waiting for the lights to come on. They did come on around 9:00 p.m. bit it was still light outside It doesn’t get dark in Copenhagen until 10:45.  I was able to see a few of the lights but since we were all so tired from the flight, we headed back to the hotel and to bed.

Back in the room I began getting ready for bed when Linda C. called to let me know that Victoria had taken a bad fall and she was taking her to the emergency room.  I have to say I went to bed worrying about both Victoria and Linda C.
