Day 14: Taking
a Bath in Bath

Today was our last full day in England. We didn't have anything scheduled for the morning, so most of us decided to go see the Holburne Museum at the end of our street. The art was amazing. What was really interesting was the exhibit by Mr. Doodles. As you walked into the museum it looked like scribbles were everywhere. This was part of the exhibit. The doodles went up the stairs and covered the entire landing of the third floor from floor to ceiling. Mary Ellen and I sat and watched the movie about how the artist got his start. It also showed a ramped up video of him creating his art everywhere and on anything: on the walls, ceiling, covering all the furniture, and even in the bathroom.
We went to view the other exhibits in the museum and found that Mr. Doodle’s artwork had been interspersed throughout the other exhibits. Many of his doodles were copies of pictures that were hanging on the wall. Next to them were pictures of the original so you could see the similarity between the two.  When viewing the other exhibits, I found most of the signs next to the pictures did an awesome job with an explanation.  Mary Ellen and I went out to the cafe patio to see the doodles that Mr Doodles had created on the windows. We met up with Victoria, Sandy, and Linda C. They decided to eat lunch at the museum. Mary Ellen and I weren't that hungry, so we went back to our room.
We were all very excited by our afternoon activity. We were scheduled for a two hour spa session at  Thermae Bath Spa. We arrived a few minutes before  our 3:00 p.m. scheduled time. When we checked in, they gave us each a pouch to lock our cell phones in. The spa is a no phone no camera zone. We were each given an wristband, a bathrobe, and a towel and then directed to go up to the locker room. I was a little taken back as we entered the locker room because you could also see men walking around. The locker room had lockers around the perimeter of the room  and circling the middle of the room. There were changing cubicles with two doors one on the left and one on the right. Inside each cubicle, there was a bench and in the middle of the bench was a lever that  locked both doors. It was a very usual locker room.
Once we all changed into our swimsuits, we headed down to the Minerva pool. The water in the pool was fed by an underground stream and contains 42 minerals that are good for the skin. The water was also very warm but not hot. We swam around in the pool for a bit; then Mary Ellen and I decided to go check out some of the other features of the spa. We grabbed our towels and bathrobes to head up the stairs to the Wellness Center.  First, we went into the steam room. You could barely see two feet in front of you. Then we went into the ice room. I was expecting this to be very cold, but it was just kind of cool. In the middle of the room was a large bathtub with an ice machine over it and every few seconds of piece of ice was spit out. I grabbed a few of these and rubbed them all over. I felt very good after being in the sauna. From here we found a room that looked like a Roman shower area and we both showered before turning around to see the sauna room which we decided to check out for a few minutes. After rinsing off again, we headed to the rooftop pool where we found the rest of our group hanging out.  As our time drew to a close, we all ended up back down at the Minerva pool for the last few minutes of calm.  It had been a wonderful afternoon.
On the way back to the hotel everyone stopped to pick up dinner for themselves. The plan was to meet in a little courtyard in front of our rooms and finish off our final bottle of Prosecco as we came to the end of our trip. We were being picked up the next morning at 7:30 for a ride to the airport.
